A big boat to a little one.

Next stop for us was Ajaccio in Corsica, we didn't arrive until lunch time and were leaving at around 6 pm, so we haven't too long to  explore, especially as we had booked onto a 4 hour sea kayaking trip from one of the local beaches. Corsica is the 4th largest island in the med, and for anyone who knows, the Lake District it is about the same size Corsica.  Most of Corsica's history is very much related to Napoleon Bonaparte, who was born in Ajaccio. Running from the north east corner to the south west corner is a mountain range with over 20 peaks above 2000 meters high, and the rest of the island is pretty hilly as well. There is a long distance walk (180 km)called the GR 20 which follows the range and takes in most of the bigger mountains. We didn't get long in Ajaccio to search out our memorabilia, but fortunately the was a small artisan market, only five minutes from the exit from the port, and the main town was only 5 minutes beyond that. Having got the shot glasses and postcard, we returned to the port to catch the coach out to the local beach where the sea kayaking was to take place. Sea kayaking is something that Perdita and I had always fancied trying, but just never got round to until now, and were both very exited to be giving it a go. The lightest(Perdita in this case) had to go in the front of the kayak and was supposed to be the person in charge, as they should be able to see any hazards to avoid. In reality she was far more interested in beach fashion, and that her bottom and sandals were getting wet. We set off from the beach weaving between the boats anchored just of shore and zig zagged through the rocks which peppered the right hand side if the beach for an hour and a half, and then turned around and took more open but longer route back to the beach. The instructors told us it was virtually impossible to capsize a kayak unless you were trying to, but a few boats did capsize including the tour guides, whose did it twice. Obviously some one doesn't like her !!!!!

We then got an hour to spend on the beach or in the few little beach bars on  the beach, which gave us a good chance to dry off a bit.

Sorry we didn't get many photo today, we left our phones in the instructors van so they didn't get wet, but I would certainly like to return to Corsica in the future.

Pongo and Perdita signing of for today.
